In my first year at the University of Leeds, 2009, we were put into a group of five students and given a brief to identify and portray through an image the essence of one member of your team. As I have an understanding and passion for Middle-Eastern culture, I teamed up with Manal; a Middle-Eastern woman that told me that she is proud of her heritage and culture. Manal also told me that her Grandfather was a great influence in her life and that he once told her "A smile is a curve that straightens out everything." These details are what drove my design to create an Arabic-looking Grandfather clock, with her Grandfathers words above the clock face.
